Symposium on gambling at the University of Hohenheim
On February 25 at 4:45 pm, our eye square expert Stefan Schönherr will give a scientific presentation at the 22nd Gambling Symposium at the University of Hohenheim. The core topic of his presentation will be gambling advertising on television and the Internet in the area of conflict between channelization and addiction prevention.
The symposium on gambling is a highly respected conference that deals intensively with the latest scientific findings in this specialist field. Experts from the fields of science, regulation, and practice exchange views on important topics such as the effectiveness of advertising, measures to protect players, illegal gambling, and preventive measures in the digital sector.
Since 2024, the eye square Brand & Media team has been conducting a long-term study on the impact of gambling advertising on behalf of the GGL (Joint Gambling Authority of the Federal States). The study is part of the evaluation of the State Treaty on Gambling 2021 and assesses the effectiveness of current advertising regulations, including TV commercials, social media ads, and special promotions such as bonuses and discounts
What does GGL control?
Die Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL) regulates the transnational gambling market in Germany. The authority, based in Halle (Saale), checks and approves online gambling offers and ensures that providers comply with the rules to protect players from gambling addiction and manipulation.
One of the central tasks of the GGL is to ensure the protection of young people and players, as well as the prevention of gambling and betting addiction.
